RED DALE POTATOES,
YUKON POTATOES, GREEN ONIONS, GRAY ZUCCHINI, BLACK ZUCCHINI,
YELLOW CROOKNECK ZUCCHINI, GOLDEN ZUCCHINI, GARLIC, CUCUMBERS,
CARROTS, CABBAGE, BANANA PEPPERS, GREEN PEPPERS, GREEN CAYENNE
PEPPERS (BY REQUEST), JALEPENO PEPPERS (BY REQUEST), KALE (BY
REQUEST) AND GLADIOLA FLOWERS--YOU CUT.

WHAT'S
THAT AND WHAT CAN I DO WITH IT?
MOST OF YOU ARE
PROBABLY FAMILIAR WITH KALE, BUT WE THOUGHT YOU'D WANT SOME
IDEAS FOR PREPARATION.
KALE IS ONE OF THOSE
EXCEPTIONALLY HARDY VEGETABLES WHICH HAS BEAUTIFUL CURLY LEAVES.
IT HAS A SLIGHTLY SHARP TASTE BUT IS A PLEASANT CHANGE OF PACE
FROM THE SWEETNESS OF OTHER WINTER VEGETABLES. ANOTHER NICE
FEATURE IS THAT IT HOLDS ITS TEXTURE WHEN COOKED, AND IT COOKS
TENDER, YET CRISP, IN MINUTES.
WHAT YOU CAN DO WITH
KALE:
*WASH WELL IN WATER;
APHIDS HIDE IN THOSE CURLY KALE LEAVES.
*FOR A PRETTY AND
FLAVORFUL ACCENT FOR OMELETS AND QUICHES, ADD SHREDDED OR
CHOPPED KALE SAUTEED IN OLIVE OIL FOR 2-3 MINUTES.
*ADD CHOPPED OR
SLICED RAW KALE DIRECTLY TO HEARTY SOUPS AND STEWS FOR THE LAST
MINUTE OF COOKING. IT'S NUTRITIOUS, HAS A PLEASANT TEXTURE, AND
LEAVES NO BITTER AFTERTASTE AS DO SOME GREENS.
*TAKE A BROTH, ADD
RICE, POTATOES, LEGUMES, OR BARLEY, AND ADD PLENTY OF SHREDDED
RAW KALE FOR AN INEXPENSIVE HEARTY SOUP.
*ADD RAW FINELY
SLICED KALE TO SALADS.
*USE IN
STUFFINGS
RECIPE
KALE STIR-FRY
Finely chop
one small bunch of kale. Saute 1/2 cup carrots, 1/4
cup onions, and 1
garlic clove. Cook until just done. Add the kale
and 1/4 cup water and
put the lid on. Steam until greens are
wilted. Add chopped
tomato. Serve over noodles or rice.
