Garden Patch Farm CSA Newsletter #2

July 19, 2005

Hello CSA Members,

We enjoyed meeting you newcomers to the CSA this year, and seeing ones from 2004. Hope you are all enjoying the harvest...

We realize some of you did not get zucchini squash or summer squash. We plan to try to remedy that situation this week...it should not matter whether you come early or later. We apologize for not planning better. Please try and understand that we put a bit out at a time so it will be fresh for you. Please only take what you will reasonably use for a few days, up to 6 days (depending on the product) since you are sharing the harvest with other families. Thank you.

                                                                                                                                                                                              You-Cut Flowers:

The zinnias are budded up very nicely; hopefully they'll be open by this weekend.
Some sunflowers will be ready.
Some cosmos will be ready.
Bee Balm: plenty!!

News:

*No more Chinese pink garlic or rhubarb for the year.
*The lemon cucumbers are still not quite ready.
*Lettuce-lovers: we will have late lettuce, as the weather gets colder (possibly toward the end of September). Lettuce likes cool weather best.

* We have honey available this weekend for you to buy...Mike has bottled it up and brought it over this afternoon (Tuesday). This batch is from his hives in Howell. We also have hives here on the farm and Mike, who is an experienced beekeeper takes care of them for us (and him). Farm fresh honey!! It can be used so many ways--even to help keep scars at a minimum or not at all!

Please remember to bring your box or basket back to reuse and measure with. Additional boxes are $2.50 and additional baskets are $5.00.

Sources for recipes:

*I will feature a delicious recipe from time to time that she has come up with.
*My recipe book at the farm--it is top-loading--take any that you'd like.
*Recipes on our website.
*New CSA recipe book: One United Harvest for sale here at the farm. It features recipes from America's Community Supported Farms. One of Robin's recipes is included. We only have 3 available for now; if you would like to order yours, we have a sign-up sheet to order the quantity you want. They are $16.00 each. Checks may be payable to Garden Patch Farm.

We look forward to seeing you this weekend.

 THOUGHTS AND DREAMS

In my garden there is a large

place for  sentiment. My garden

of thoughts and dreams.

The thoughts grow as freely

as the flowers,

and the dreams

are as beautiful.
